NEET Biology: the chapters that quietly decide your rank

Chaitanya's Academy Faculty5 min read

In NEET, Biology is worth 360 of the 720 marks — half the paper. Get Biology right and you've given yourself a cushion that even a shaky Physics section can't fully undo. The good news: the marks aren't spread evenly. A focused group of chapters appears year after year, and that's where serious aspirants concentrate.

Human Physiology and Genetics are the heavyweights

Between them they account for a large share of questions every year, and they reward students who understand processes rather than memorise diagrams. If you can explain how a system works — not just label it — these chapters become reliable scorers.

Ecology is the quiet rank-maker

It's high-yield, conceptually lighter than Physiology, and far too many students treat it as an afterthought, leaving easy marks on the table.

Plant and Cell Biology round out the core

They're dense with NCERT detail, which is exactly why line-by-line NCERT reading pays off here more than anywhere else.

Three principles that matter more than any chapter list

First, NCERT is non-negotiable in Biology — a large fraction of questions come straight from its lines, including the ones students skim. Second, revision beats first-time coverage: Biology rewards the student who has been through the syllabus three times over the one who saw it once, slowly. Third, test yourself relentlessly. Recognising an answer when you read it is not the same as recalling it under exam pressure.

None of this replaces a structured plan across two years — but if you're wondering where to put your next ten hours, these chapters are where they'll earn the most.
